World-Class Shelling

Sanibel is world-famous for shelling, and for good reason — its east-west orientation acts like a giant scoop for the Gulf, with over 400 species of shell washing ashore. Bowman’s Beach and Blind Pass Beach are among the richest hunting grounds, where the “Sanibel Stoop” is practically the island’s official posture.

Conchs, whelks, scallops and the prized junonia all turn up here, making every low tide a treasure hunt.
